I wanted to camp at Ferndale camping area at Chichester Dam but the man (navman) gave me a bum steer. I was traveling on a dirt road for probably more than 30k when I seen a young man, bare chested, walking along the road. I asked him about the caravan park and was told in broken English, no caravan park here! so I turned around when I found a decent wide area to do so and headed back the way I came. I didn't know it but I had turned off Chichester Dam road on to Salisbury road, that was my mistake, so when I arrived back, I turned left and continued on Chichester Dam road until I passed some campers down by the river on the right. This seemed like a great spot, its in the area called Bandon Vale. Not sure if it is a free camp area but there is 5 campers fully set up, and no 'no camping' displayed on the sign so it must be ok. I'm surprised at the flush toilet, a bit of luxury in the bush although I'm only about (just guessing) 20k from Dungog.
Met two most lovely couples of similar age to me, up from Victoria looking for rapids to kayak. They were not having much luck due to the lack of rain in our parts. They had a total of 8 Kayak with them for four people, used for different types of kayaking. Great travelers with wonderful stories to tell during happy hour. This morning they headed off to Gloucester and the Barrington's after being here 2 nights.
I can't wait to get out of southern phones, I have no coverage here, Telstra's big pond is great. Tomorrow I'll try the tv and see how that goes.
View under the bridge and the little rapids.
After a bit of Landcare clearing (to get my water view) I took a drive to find Ferndale camping area today, only another 12k along the road and I found it. I think I'm happier where I am for the time being, as this place was full of cmca solo's and campers. The shower block looked shabby and for the $12 per night and an extra $6 for power. I can do without a real shower. I checked out a motor home owned by a solo female that I would love to own and took some photos of it as well.
Ruby went for a swim this morning before a few day trippers and fisherpersons arrived. The weather is beautiful, not hot, though tomorrow may be.
