Departed Gunning about 9.30 after having a lovely chat to the woman who runs the Post Office and also getting in contact with Roam to settle the cost of my trip on Sydney freeways.

On the way to Gundagai we ran into a rain squall so continued on toward Holbrook for a lunch break where the rain had not fallen. It was a lovely park and surprising enough the centre piece of the park was the longest submarine I've ever seen.
There's a fabulous cake shop in town, were we indulged in cheese cake and a French vanilla slice.
Albury is certainly not the same as it was the last time I was there, amazingly large these days in comparison to the tiny town of 1976.
Crossing the border at about 3.10 pm we headed toward Beechworth where Robert O'Hara Burke (Burke and Wills fame) was stationed as senior inspector of police from 1854 to 1857 and the appearances by Ned Kelly 1871 and his mother 1878 in the lock up, awaiting trial in the court house.
This fellow who works in the Court House museum was the most interesting and accommodating person, his wealth of information kept us enthralled.
We learnt quickly the rule for crossing the road on foot is different from NSW, the car has the right of way at crossings not the pedestrian. We almost got skittle by a police car in the main street of Beechworth. We looked at him sheepishly after reading the sign on the footpath and realized our mistake.
The old goal was in use until 2004
A beautiful town to visit, more time to see all that is offered next time around.
