Broken Hill March 2021

Setting off from Wallabadah, I followed Navmans directions to Binnaway

Barb, Griff and I stayed at Wallabadah for one night after leaving Chaffey Dam.

I listened to Navman and was taken onto 58kl of dirt road thru Pine ridge and Coomoo till I came to an intersection and I waved down a truck driver, he was kind enough to show me the way to the tar road that bought me out to Colly Blue. Dont ever go that way again..

The road seemed to get narrower

Then it turned to dirt... for many kls, I'd come to far to turn back.

Finally reached Binnaway

A quick stop at Dubbo for the shops

Then onto Narromine. The caravan park on the other side of town next to the airport was good value at $15 non power.

What a beautiful Dashound pup. I could take him home.

I met up with Karen Carney here at Nyngan

We found an oasis at Cobar's old Reservoir, free camp

In Cobar town, day parking, water, dump point and undercover seating.

At Wilcannia, the out of town caravan park where, if you ask for a non power site, you get taken half a kl out into the bush. One thing going for this park is the personal shower/toilet cubicles, they are the best I've seen. The owner showing us were to park got a flat tire and ditched the bike overnight.

Broken Hill

Popular 1950's cafe

The best molted milkshake

Living Desert camp ground.

Sturt's Desert Pea

To the men who died while at work, way to many......

I didn't get the name of this pub.

Silverton

Donkeys live on the common

Silverton's old Jail-now the Museum

Electric hair curlers...buzzzzzzz

And onto Menindee

Camped on Pammamarro Lake. Menindee Lake is dry.

Didn't drive far enough along the rough dirt road to arrive at Burke and Wills camp spot.

We stayed 2 nights here.

We were not game to drive the dirt road to Wilcannia, so we opted to drive back to the Barrier Hwy at Broken Hill then turn East. About 100kls extra milage.

Wilcannia caravan park close to town

Getting the goss on the locals

Safety in numbers

Good police presence

This older couple decided on parking alone, on the other side of the grounds.

The Darling River

Camping away from other campers, the older couple were targeted by opportunistic thieves. The husband had neglected to lock their car, they lost a computer and alcohol.

Back at Cobar, camping around the other side of the Old Reservoir.

My Craig shows up for an overnight camp.

Craig's swag setup

We were very aware of the rain forecast and were prepared to get off this ground quickly if it did rain, this red dirt would turn to glue.  Only a few sprinkles after 7am.

Thought I'd stop here on the was back to Nyngan, as this is where Craig left his group of bikers to continue his Darling run alone.

Nyngan

Trangie , such a lovely park beside the river

I said goodbye to my travel buddy Karen Carney after a good nights sleep at Narromine caravan park, we had a great 9 days together. I don't think either of us would have done this trip alone.
